Keszthely

Festetics castle

The whole castle-building is home of Helikon Museum which has several permanent exhibitions. It’s worthwhile to go to see the park too; you can see special kinds of trees there. It is decorated with several sculptures.

Kossuth Lajos street

It was called “Capitalis”, i. e. Main Street in the late Middle Ages. It has been framed into Pedestrian Street twenty years ago. The guests like visiting it, because it has old buildings, which cherish the memory of the old times. It is friendly; you can take part in programs here or go for ice cream into a confectionary or café.

Balaton Museum

It’s the only museum, which shows the natural, archeological ethnographic and historic relics of Lake Balaton, it has an exhibition of the history of bathing and shipping in and on Lake Balaton.

Georgikon Farm-museum

It shows the relics of the seigniorial domestic economy, the life of farm-laborers and the relics of Georgicon, the first agricultural college in Europe, founded by György Festetics in 1797.

There are several other museums in Keszthely: Coach Museum, Marzipan Museum, Doll Museum, Snail Parliament, etc. It is an enjoyable pastime for all age groups to go to see one or more of them. You can take part in traditional folklore-evenings in Esterházy Cellar in Szigliget, or in Helikon Tavern in Vonyarcvashegy. There is a little chapel on the hill in Vonyarcvashegy, the St Michael chapel. It was built to the memory of escape of 40 fishermen. Near Héviz is the Egregy vineyard, it is famous of its excellent wine. We can go to see the little church, which shows the stylistical marks of Arpad-age.

Kis Balaton

The Kis-Balaton, a part of the National Park on Balaton Highland lies only 15 km far from Zalakaros. The Kányavári Island and the Buffalo reservation in Kápolnapuszta can be visited, but the inside flooded and defended parts can be visited with a special permission and escort only. The Kis-Balaton Exhibit-House was opened in Zalavár on the castle-island in the Millennium-year.

Beside the restful refreshing you can make your holiday richer in adventures. You can take part in boat trips; you can make a choice of several kinds of boats kayak, canoe or rowing boat with ten people.
